(1898 – 1985)

René Le Roy (1898–1985) studied with Adolphe Hennebains and Léopold Lafleurance at the Paris Conservatoire, and later with Philippe Gaubert.

Le Roy was a soloist and chamber music player who made many recordings.

In 1922 he founded the Quintette Instrumental de Paris, consisting of flute, harp and string trio, a successful ensemble for which many composers wrote new works.

Le Roy’s students included, for a short but apparently very influential time, Geoffrey Gilbert
