Julius Baker
Julius Baker (1915–2003) was one of the leading American flute players and teachers.
Baker studied for a time with Leonardo De Lorenzo and later, at the
Curtis Institute, with William Kincaid. He was first flute in the New York Philharmonic Orchestra for 18 years from 1965, having previously played first flute in the Pittsburgh and Chicago orchestras.
Baker taught at the Juilliard School and at the Curtis Institute, where his students included many of the best-known players working today.
