Canvas as cue
In Outline View, unless you are at the root, whenever you hit RETURN to make a new note, you will be doing so “inside” a parent note.
The parent note will determine the background of the Outline View window. You can use this fact to let you know the prototype of the parent note, to cue you into a certain kind of writing.
For example, in BoxPress the background color is gray when you’re inside a content note, blue when inside a utility note, and black when you’re at the root.
And by using the $OnAdd
attribute, you can ensure that every new note you make will be of the same kind. In this way the genre of your environment spreads to new notes created within it.
